The Blue Whale might be the Largest Known Animal EVER!
Blue Whales are magnificent marine mammals that are up to 30 meters (100 feet) long and up to of 200 tons (181 metric tons). It is the largest known length and weight but some scientists estimate that it can be crossed. Between 10,000 and 25,000 blue whales are believed to exist today in earth’s oceans.
Heart of a blue whale weighs as much as a small car and the tongue weighs as much as an elephant. There is a popular belief that some dinosaurs were larger than blue whales, but there is no known species of animal ever to be larger or heavier than this gigantic creature on this earth ever known to be alive. [Ref] Blue whales are also among earth’s oldest animals, oldest found was estimated to be ~110 years old.
During certain times of the year, a single adult blue whale consumes about 4 tons (3.6 metric tons) of krill each day.
Argentinosaurus, Diplodocus, Amphicoelias, Supersaurus , the world’s largest dinosaurs are known from little more than a few vertebrae and bones. The incomplete data leads to a rough estimation of size and could be extremely different than estimations. They are estimated up to 20 mtr longer in length, but much lower in weight and other aspects, also these animals are very little known. It is estimated that a whale weighs almost 3 times as the same sized dinosaur.[Ref]
Sharks and killer whales are one of the very few predators that hunt the blue whale, many die from collision with large ships. Environmental factors also affect the blue whale population, and are classified as endangered on World Conservation Union (IUCN) Red List.
